Fantastic effort by Tandem staffer Barbara Cooper for completing “The Bloody Long Walk” to support those affected by Mitochondrial disease (Mito).

Barbara had never heard of Mito until about six months ago when she met a family whose mother and daughter had the disease. After witnessing the impact on the family, and learning more about the disease, she was inspired to participate in the 35-kilometre walk.

Barbara completed the walk in 6 hours, 28 minutes and 35 seconds and raised $1,000 for the Mito Foundation whose mission is to fund research into the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cures of mitochondrial disorders. The foundation also uses the funds to raise awareness and to educate the community about this debilitating and potentially fatal disease.
